"Dhanki," a 2023 Hindi-language comedy-drama film from India, revolves around the concept of illegal immigration, directed and edited by Raj Kumar Hirani. Hirani collaborated with Abhijat Joshi and Kanika Dhillon to write the screenplay for this production, which was brought to life under the banners of Red Chillies Entertainment, Jio Studios, and Rajkumar Hirani Films. Formally announced in April 2022, the film's actual photography commenced that same month, spreading across locations such as Mumbai, Jabalpur, Kashmir, Budapest, London, Jeddah, and NEOM, concluding in April 2023. Pritam curated the film's soundtrack, while Amaal Mallik composed it. The backdrop was brought to life by cinematographers C.K. Muraleedharan, Manush Nandan, and Amit Roy.
"Dhanki" witnessed its worldwide theatrical release on December 21, 2023, garnering mixed reviews from critics. Despite the diverse critical reception, the film achieved significant financial success, grossing over ₹390.64 crore (US$49 million) globally, surpassing its ₹120 crore (US$15 million) production and marketing budget. It secured the position of the sixth highest-grossing Hindi film of 2023, ninth highest-grossing Indian film of that year, and the thirty-third highest-grossing Indian film of all time.
