 Annapoorani: The godess of food is a 2023 Indian Tamil-language drama film marking the directorial debut of Nilesh Krishnaa. It is jointly produced by Jatin Sethi and R. Ravindran under Zee Studios, Naad Studios, and Trident Arts. The lead role is played by Nayanthara, with Jai and Sathyaraj in supporting roles. The narrative centers around Annapoorani, an aspiring chef, and the challenges she encounters while pursuing her culinary dreams.


The film was officially disclosed in July 2022 under the tentative title "Nayanthara 75," signifying Nayanthara's 75th venture in a lead role. The final title, Annapoorani, was revealed in October 2023. Principal photography kicked off in April 2023 in Chennai, with additional shooting in Tiruchirappalli, concluding by mid-September 2023. Thaman S composed the music, Sathyan Sooryan handled cinematography, and editing was done by Praveen Anthony.

Annapoorani hit theaters on December 1, 2023, garnering a mixed reception from critics.

In the upcoming film, Nayanthara takes on the role of Annapoorani Rangarajan, with her voice dubbed by Deepa Venkat, while Ovi Bhandarkar portrays the character of young Annapoorani. Sathyaraj stars as Chef Anand Sundarajan, with Jai playing Farhaan, Annapoorani's classmate, and love interest. Achyuth Kumar portrays Rangarajan, Annapoorani's father, with his voice provided by Jayaprakash. K. S. Ravikumar appears as 'Arusuvai' Annamalai, while Karthik Kumar takes on the role of Chef Ashwin Sundarrajan, Anand's son. Renuka stars as Saradha, Annapoorani's mother, and Sachu as Subbulakshmi Paati, Annapoorani's grandmother. Redin Kingsley plays Chinto Chin, Annapoorani's classmate, and friend. Production

Development:
On July 12, 2022, Zee Studios, Naad SStudios, and Trident Arts jointly announced their collaboration on a film directed by Nilesh Krishnaa, marking his directorial debut, with Nayanthara in the lead role. The project was initially referred to as Nayanthara 75. Nilesh Krishnaa, known for his past co-writing work on films like 2.0 (2018) and Indian 2, previously collaborated with director Shankar. This film holds special significance for Nayanthara as it marks her first lead role after her wedding to Vignesh Shivan in June 2022. In the same month, the supporting cast was revealed, including Jai, Sathyaraj, and Redin Kingsley, with Jai reuniting with Nayanthara after their collaboration on Raja Rani (2013).

On April 8, 2023, the crew was solidified with announcements of cinematographer Sathyan Sooryan, music composer Thaman S, editor Praveen Anthony, and art director Durairaj joining the team. Cast additions on the same day included Redin Kingsley, Suresh Chakravarthy, and Renuka. Krishnaa disclosed that during the COVID-19 pandemic, he conveyed the script to Nayanthara over a phone call and had her in mind while writing it. Additionally, he revealed the inclusion of K. S. Ravikumar and Achyuth Kumar in the cast, with the latter playing Nayanthara's character's father. The film's title, paying homage to the Hindu goddess of food, Annapurna, was unveiled on October 25 through a promotional video.



Filming:
Principal photography commenced on April 9, 2023, with the initial schedule taking place in Chennai and receiving blessings from veteran actor Rajinikanth. The first schedule concluded within three days, and after a brief hiatus, the second schedule commenced in mid-April in Tiruchirappalli. Filming wrapped up on September 16.

Music:
Thaman S, in his fourth collaboration with Nayanthara and first with Krishnaa, composed the music and background score. Saregama acquired the audio rights for the film. The first single, "Ulagai Vella Pogiraal," was released on Nayanthara's 39th birthday (November 18, 2023), and the second single, "Life Is On," was released on November 23, 2023.
